Sean Astin is trading Middle-earth for the gridiron. The Lord of the Rings actor and current SAG-AFTRA President has signed on to star in Will To Win, a high school sports drama inspired by the life and legacy of vaudeville icon Will Rogers.
Joining Astin in the ensemble cast are Jeremy Piven (Entourage), Lorraine Bracco (The Sopranos), and Isabel DeRoy-Olson (Three Pines). The project is the first-ever film to receive official endorsement from the Will Rogers family.
According to Deadline Hollywood, the film draws inspiration from Rogers's philosophy and legacy, weaving his influence into a contemporary high school sports narrative. The Rogers estate's approval suggests confidence in the project.
Astin's involvement combines his work as an acclaimed actor with his role as union leader. Piven and Bracco bring dramatic experience to the cast. Production timeline and distribution details remain undisclosed.
