Teyana Taylor just had the most iconic moment of her career — and she didn't see it coming.
The multidisciplinary superstar accepted the BET Awards 2026 Icon of the Year award when Janet Jackson walked out to present it.
"Oh, my God. Bitch, I'm gagging," Taylor said as she got onstage, visibly emotional. "They did not tell me Janet was coming, bitch, and it's so crazy because when Kehlani said, 'Janet is here,' I said, Bitch, is that the surprise? I wasn't sure!"
After thanking Jackson for being her inspiration and friend, Taylor delivered a speech that felt like earned confidence. "Tonight, they handed me a title, and that title is Icon of the Year. And for a little minute, I wondered if I was supposed to feel uncomfortable saying that title out loud," she revealed.
"But nah, I worked my ass off 20 years for this. So I'm not accepting what I've earned with arrogance. I'm accepting what I've earned with gratitude."
Taylor went on to note her résumé — artist, actress, director, choreographer, creative director, stylist, designer, writer, producer, and chef. She is also graduating in September.
The honor comes as Taylor is riding one of the biggest waves of her career. Her 2025 album Escape Room snagged a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album earlier this year, establishing her status as a genre-defying force who refuses to stay in one lane.
From dance floor to Hollywood to music to boardrooms, Teyana Taylor has proven herself an icon — and now she has the hardware to match.
