Bad Bunny's halftime show at the Super Bowl generated over 2,000 complaints to the FCC. According to Rolling Stone's breakdown of FCC filings, viewers objected to the dancers' moves and Bad Bunny's lyrics.
Words like "vulgar," "disgusting," and "indecent" appeared hundreds of times in the complaints. At least three people misspelled "twerking" as "twirking." Some viewers admitted they don't speak Spanish but complained about his lyrics anyway after searching online translations.
Racist complaints also appeared. One read: "There are illegals on my TV screen. I don't understand Spanish, but I think I heard inappropriate language." The FCC found nothing worth investigating.
Before the Bad Bunny complaints had settled, Paramount Pictures aired the Scream 7 trailer early in the broadcast, right after the National Anthem. Parents responded with their own wave of complaints.
"My children are now scared and huddling on my lap because we couldn't turn the channel fast enough," one viewer wrote. Another said: "[P]eacock has dropped a nightmare bomb in our house by airing trailers for 'Scream 7' during family prime time viewing hours."
The same parents apparently had no issue with their children watching grown men deliver hard hits in a contact sport. A horror trailer, however, crossed the line.
While Bad Bunny's performance made headlines, it took a masked killer and fake blood to actually frighten America's children.
