Mark Zuckerberg's Meta is developing an AI-powered pendant that users can clip to their shirt or wear as a necklace, with testing potentially beginning within the next year, according to TechCrunch.

Meta acquired AI device startup Limitless at the end of 2025. Limitless already had a pendant that records conversations. Meta said the acquisition would help it "accelerate our work to build AI-enabled wearables."

AI wearables have struggled with consumer adoption. Privacy concerns have dogged the category. Marketing missteps have been common. Many devices have lacked clear utility. Meta faces significant skepticism.

A memo obtained by The Information reveals Meta has broader ambitions: expanding its AI glasses lineup and launching "Wearables for Work," a business subscription product.

Reality Labs, Meta's hardware division, lost $4 billion in the first quarter of 2026. Zuckerberg appears to see AI wearables as central to reversing those losses.

OpenAI and other companies are also investing in wearable AI. The race is underway, and whether Meta's pendant becomes a consumer staple or joins the list of abandoned hardware remains uncertain.
