Comcast NBCUniversal is investing $8.1 billion in a new Universal theme park in the UK. The Peacock network's first resort in Europe will be built in Bedfordshire and is scheduled to open in 2031.
According to the UK's Culture, Media & Sport department, the resort is expected to attract 8.5 million visitors annually. Comcast chairman Brian Roberts said this is a "special moment for our company." The £6 billion foreign investment represents a significant commitment to UK tourism and employment.
European audiences will soon have access to Universal's theme park offerings without traveling to Orlando or Los Angeles. The project reflects Comcast's assessment that international visitors are willing to travel for the experience at scale.
If construction stays on schedule, Bedfordshire will become one of Europe's largest entertainment destinations by 2031.
