Gracie Abrams isn't slowing down. The 26-year-old singer-songwriter is dropping her third studio album, Daughter From Hell, on July 17—and she's already calling it the best thing she's ever created.
"It's definitely my favorite music I've ever made," Abrams told the Hollywood Reporter earlier this year. "I feel very closely connected to it." She described the album as a time capsule of where she is right now—emotionally, creatively, and artistically.
Since her debut Good Riddance and sophomore effort The Secret of Us, Abrams has worked to expand her range. The new album features bigger arrangements, deeper layers, and songs that show new sides of her songwriting.
Aaron Dessner Co-Produced—And He's Obsessed
Producer Aaron Dessner co-produced Daughter From Hell with Abrams, continuing a creative partnership that began six years ago. The pair built on the foundation they established on The Secret of Us.
"I can't believe it's been 6 years since Gracie and I started making songs together," Dessner wrote on Instagram. He praised her "sharpening and deepening" lyricism and said fans would hear the duo "expanding our musical vocabulary and pushing into uncharted waters sonically."
'Hit the Wall' Sets the Tone
First single "Hit the Wall" dropped on May 14. Abrams wrote it in New York after wrapping her Secret of Us tour, when she was missing friends and feeling disconnected from her life.
"It was the first time in a while I was able to put words to these feelings that are a bit intrusive and uncomfortable to sit with," she told SiriusXM. "It was really lovely and cathartic, honestly, to put it in one place."
She knew immediately that "Hit the Wall" had to be the album's intro.
