They're back—and they're angrier than ever. NYC hardcore pioneers Cro-Mags have released their first new song in six years. The track, titled "Wired for Chaos," premiered exclusively on Rolling Stone and features frontman Harley Flanagan confronting his personal history.
The song opens with an aggressive metal intro, then moves into classic hardcore thrash before building into a heavy section. Flanagan described it as suitable for a UFC walk-in vibe.
The lyrics address Flanagan's lifelong experience with chaos. The musical prodigy who entered punk circles at 11 has battled addiction and violence, and "Wired for Chaos" directly engages that history. "The song is literally about being programmed and wired for chaos from birth," Flanagan revealed, "not just by environment, but by parents, trauma, childhood experiences, and the resulting PTSD."
The accompanying music video, directed by Rex Miller, uses footage from recent Cro-Mags tours and echoes their 1986 video for "We Gotta Know." Flanagan notes that the visuals capture a blended fanbase spanning hardcore kids, metalheads, punks, and skinheads—a cross-genre reach he compares to Motörhead.
The band is preparing a full album for 2027 release. After six years away, Cro-Mags are returning with new material.
