Hilaria Baldwin doesn't shy away from discussing the elephant in the room. The wellness guru and yoga instructor married to actor opened up to the Daily Mail about their unconventional 26-year age gap, and her take is direct: it's hilarious.
"Take a 27-year-old yoga instructor married to a rich and famous older man—it sounds ridiculous," Hilaria, now 42, told the outlet on May 29. "It sounds like a bad SNL sketch." Her family doesn't take themselves too seriously about it.
"We poke fun at each other in our family all the time," she revealed. "I think people expect that Alec wanted somebody he could boss around, and we're on the same level together." The casual assumptions about their marriage miss the mark.
For Alec, 68, it was love at first sight when he met Hilaria (then known as Hilaria Thomas) at Pure Food and Wine in New York in February 2011. "She was unknown; she wasn't a famous person," the Beetlejuice star explained. "She was a hard worker and I really admired that. She's beautiful beyond measure, inside and out."
Their secret after more than a decade of marriage is simple, according to Hilaria: "We just let each other be." The couple shares seven kids together—Carmen, Rafael, Leonardo, Romeo, Eduardo, Maria Lucia, and Ilaria—plus Alec's daughter Ireland from his previous marriage to Kim Basinger.
Date nights typically center on dinner. "We either go out or I cook and we usually end up chatting and catching each other up on our seven kids and our projects," Hilaria said. Nothing elaborate required.
"There's been so much chaos in our lives," she added, "so much of it wonderful, some horrible things but we've managed to figure it out." Alec has made his priorities clear: "I want to stay home and do nothing and be with the kids."
