Jay Daniel, the Emmy-winning executive producer, died Wednesday, May 27, in Los Angeles of a pneumonia-related illness. He was 82.

His frequent producing partner Glenn Gordon Caron announced the news.

Daniel produced Roseanne, the sitcom that told the stories of working-class Americans with wit and directness. His work on Moonlighting brought the same approach to romantic comedy-drama, while Cybill featured another complex female lead at a time when television was beginning to embrace such characters on screen.

Daniel earned multiple Emmy nominations and wins. He had the ability to spot talent, develop stories, and nurture series that audiences wanted to watch. He was the kind of producer whose name rarely made tabloid headlines but whose work shaped television for decades.
