Joanne Froggatt is joining MGM+'s The Magnificent Seven remake. The Downton Abbey and MobLand star is in final negotiations to take on the role, with filming set to begin next week in Calgary.
Froggatt will play a Quaker leader, joining an ensemble cast that includes Matt Dillon, Will Patton, and Michael Ealy as part of the seven mercenaries at the heart of this reimagined classic.
Production begins on location in Calgary imminently. Insiders say the role is significant—a character-driven part suited to Froggatt's range for complex, morally layered women.
This is another major role for Froggatt in prestige television. After critically acclaimed work in crime drama MobLand and years as Mrs. Hughes in Downton Abbey, the Yorkshire-born actress continues to lead top-tier projects in British and American productions.
The Magnificent Seven remake is a major event series for MGM+. The streamer is adapting the 1960 Western epic as a contemporary ensemble drama with A-list talent, following the model of prestige limited series in recent years.
Froggatt's casting prioritizes quality storytelling—a necessity in a crowded streaming market where script and character matter as much as name recognition.
