Legendary Ghanaian musician Kiki Gyan is about to get the documentary treatment she deserves. The Kiki Gyan documentary has been selected for the 2026 Locarno Open Doors programme, one of the film world's most prestigious launching pads for African cinema.

Locarno Open Doors, now in its second year of a four-year cycle dedicated exclusively to African projects, has chosen six films from across ten different African countries for this year's roster.

The Locarno Film Festival platform carries serious international clout. Films selected here typically secure distribution deals, festival invitations worldwide, and reach audiences well beyond the Swiss Alps.

The Kiki Gyan doc joins an elite cohort of projects that will benefit from mentorship, industry networking, and exposure to cinema's programmers and buyers. The Open Doors programme is specifically designed to nurture bold, innovative filmmaking from emerging and established African directors.

Details on the other five selected projects and the full lineup are expected in the coming weeks.
