Marc Maron is ready to show the world he's more than a podcast guy. The veteran comedian and WTF podcast legend stars in In Memoriam, a new existential dramedy that premieres at the Tribeca Festival this Sunday.
The film follows Langston, a seasoned television actor who receives a terminal diagnosis and becomes obsessed with mortality, legacy, and what he'll leave behind. Maron, who has spent decades mining his own neuroses and contradictions for comedy, is well-cast in the role.
According to Deadline, Maron has been candid about processing the loss of his late partner, filmmaker Lynn Shelton, who passed away in 2020. That loss informs the role, which centers on confronting the void that death creates.
Maron recently concluded his WTF podcast after nearly two decades. The podcast's ending mirrors themes of legacy and absence in In Memoriam.
Co-created with Rob Burnett, the dramedy draws on the insecurities and anxieties that have fueled Maron's best work, channeled through a fictional character facing mortality itself.
Tribeca Film Festival opens this Sunday. In Memoriam marks a shift toward dramatic work from one of comedy's most direct voices.
