New Order announced Monday that keyboardist and guitarist Gillian Gilbert and drummer Stephen Morris — married since 1994 — will not join the band for their upcoming Primavera Chile performance in November or for the foreseeable future.
The band stated on Instagram: "Due to personal health reasons, Stephen and Gillian won't be touring for the foreseeable future and will not be joining for this show." The absence is notable, as this marks New Order's first performance in Chile in seven years.
Remaining members Bernard Sumner, Phil Cunningham, and Tom Chapman said: "Bernard, Phil and Tom are really sorry that Stephen and Gillian can't join us this time, but unfortunately the circumstances make it impossible."
The band did not disclose specifics about the health reasons, keeping the details private. Gilbert and Morris have been core to New Order's sound since the group's formation, and an extended absence is without precedent.
New Order will proceed with the Chile show while their bandmates focus on their health. It remains unclear when or if Gilbert and Morris will return to touring.
