Prince George is now nearly as tall as his mother Kate Middleton. During a visit to RAF Coningsby, the 12-year-old heir stood beside the Princess of Wales, who is 5-foot-nine, and the resemblance in height was striking.

Footage shared to the official royal Instagram on June 27 shows Prince George standing alongside the Princess of Wales. The mother-son duo were there to honour Armed Forces Day and explore the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Observers on social media focused on George's height.

"Oh my word! He's so tall," one Instagram commenter wrote. Another added: "It feels as though it was just yesterday his parents were introducing him to the world outside of the hospital, and now he has grown remarkably tall."

Royal watchers noted that George may follow in Prince William's footsteps as a pilot. One commenter wrote, "And just like that, a pilot is born." The Prince of Wales served in the UK's Armed Forces.

George turns 13 on July 22. In September, he will start at Eton College, the same boarding school his father and Uncle Harry attended. He may also receive a cell phone at that time.

Prince William said in a November interview that the phone situation is "becoming a little bit of a tense issue." William has suggested giving George an old-school "brick phone" (texts and calls only, no internet) when he heads to Eton.

George is moving into new phases of his life as a member of the royal family.
