Russell Wilson is hanging up his on-field ambitions and moving to the broadcast booth. The 37-year-old NFL veteran will join CBS Sports as an analyst on its Sunday pregame show for the upcoming football season, according to E! Online. The Seattle Seahawks alum will replace Matt Ryan on the panel alongside James Brown, Nate Burleson, and Bill Cowher.

Wilson has not officially retired from the league. He weighed a backup quarterback offer from the New York Jets, where he would have played second to Geno Smith, but chose the broadcasting role instead.

In May, Wilson discussed the decision after visiting the Jets. "They offered me, and I'm trying to figure out what the next best thing is for me to do," he told The New York Post. "I still know I can play ball at a high level, but I also have the opportunity to do TV, so we'll see what happens."

Wilson, 37, shares three children with pop star wife Ciara—Sienna, 9, Win, 5, and Amora, 2—and is stepfather to Ciara's 11-year-old son Future Zahir. The broadcasting role allows him to remain involved in football while spending more time with his family.

"There's a lot of great networks and obviously it's a great opportunity for me," Wilson said. "I'm excited. I just love football. I love ball, being in it in every way, staying ready to play, too."
