Sanskruti Jayana is having a major moment. The actress has arrived in Bollywood with her impressive debut in Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart, the lavish mythological epic that's currently packing theatres—and she's playing one of the film's most emotionally complex characters: Satyabhama.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Sanskruti discussed what she learned playing Krishna's fiercest wife. The lesson: backbone.

"My takeaway from Satyabhama would be that she stood for what's right," Sanskruti revealed. "Her name, Satya, was added to Bhama because she was never afraid to stand for what was right, even if it meant going against her father or speaking her mind in front of Krishna as well."

She praised Satyabhama as "unapologetic, so courageous, and so real." Playing the role taught her to "feel everything, to embrace every emotion"—and to channel that into her own life.

Sanskruti also spoke of a spiritual connection to the character. "Her love for Krishna is something that has stayed with me," she said. "The love for Krishna will always be there in Sanskruti's heart as well. I came close to Krishna because of Satyabhama, and that is the most divine gift she gave me."

Directed by Hardik Gajjar and produced by Creativeland Studios Entertainment, Krishnavataram is the first chapter of a planned three-part franchise. The film is currently running in cinemas.

If this debut is any indication, Sanskruti Jayana isn't here to play it safe.
