Shakira is finally ready to talk about it. The 49-year-old superstar opened up about her 2022 split from retired soccer star Gerard Piqué in a raw, revealing interview, describing the breakup as the "darkest moment—when I saw the dissolution of my family."

After 11 years together and two kids—Milan, 13, and Sasha, 11—the end of her relationship devastated her. "The family that I had dreamt to keep forever," she told The Times. But the pain, she says, transformed her.

"I've been through so much pain, but it has made me perhaps in an unforeseen way a wiser person—or stronger, at least," she explained. She credits the experience with teaching her lessons about resilience and strength.

During this period, Shakira was also caring for her father, who suffered a severe fall shortly after flying to Barcelona to support her following the split.

She had A-list friends in her corner. Chris Martin sent her a photo of a broken vase glued together with gold—a "Kintsugi" symbol of healing. Adele also stepped up during this time.

Four years post-breakup, Shakira has made peace with Piqué. "I will always have that gratitude in my heart for the father of my kids," she said, "and [for] turning me into the mother that I am today."

As for her love life, she is taking a step back. "No romance for me for now," Shakira revealed. "There's no space or time in my life for that. My plate is quite full."

Instead, she is channeling her energy into her kids and her career—which she is "in love with" more than ever before. "I'm enjoying my time alone as well," she added.
