Simone Biles revealed she's recovering from a near-fatal medical emergency that struck earlier this week.

"Almost dying wasn't on my bingo card earlier this week," Biles wrote on Instagram Stories over a photo showing three hospital bracelets on her wrist. The 29-year-old gymnast added: "This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life."

Her husband, NFL player Jonathan Owens, was not with her at the time. "Especially since Jonathan was in Indy for practices," she revealed.

Biles has been bedridden all week. "S/o to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers," she wrote, sharing snaps of elaborate floral arrangements and a bedroom photo featuring her two dogs. In the recovery post, she also shared a screenshot of her elevated heart rate: 126 bpm.

While Biles didn't specify what caused the medical emergency, this isn't her first health scare. Last year, she discussed the physical toll of the 2024 Paris Olympics. After competing in Paris, where she won three gold medals and one silver, her body collapsed. "I went back to the village, took the elevator and my body literally collapsed," she told L'Équipe in April 2025.

Even nearly a year later, the strain persisted. "The other day, we were sprinting in the garden with friends," she recalled. "I had aches and pains for three days."

For now, Biles is moving at a slower pace. With 11 Olympic medals in her collection, she is not rushing back to competition. "I'm really trying to enjoy life, spend time with my husband and go support him at his games," she shared. "I've accomplished so much in my sport." For her to return to elite competition? "It would really have to excite me."
