Donald Trump's $1.8 billion "anti-weaponization fund," nestled inside a major IRS settlement, is officially "not moving forward," according to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche.

The fund was designed to compensate people who claimed the IRS weaponized the tax code against them. Lawmakers feared the cash could end up with January 6 Capitol siege participants.

Lawmakers from both parties blocked the payout scheme. Republicans and Democrats united in opposition, citing concerns about the optics and potential beneficiaries.

Blanche's confirmation marks the official end of a proposal already facing intense political backlash. The IRS lawsuit itself remains, but the controversial financial component has been shelved entirely.
