Euphoria ended its three-season run, and the internet is divided on whether the finale was a masterclass in tragedy or a missed opportunity.

The HBO series wrapped with the episode "In God We Trust" — a 90-minute sendoff that dropped its biggest bombshell halfway through: Rue, Zendaya's protagonist, overdosed and died. The show had been moving toward this dark conclusion since the beginning.

The death scene contained emotional weight. Rue hallucinated a reunion with her mother in her final moments, and a dream sequence reunited her with Fez (Angus Cloud, the actor who died of an accidental overdose in 2023). "The fez and rue flashback made me sob," one fan tweeted. "Say what you want about this show but Zendaya just had the best tv death of all time," another wrote.

But not everyone was convinced.

Some fans were furious that Labrinth — the composer who scored the first two seasons — did not return for Season Three. "Rue bennet dying scene has me sobbing and the fact we didnt get a Labrinth music in that scene is CRAZY," one viewer complained. Labrinth revealed in April that he left due to creative disagreements, writing on social media: "when I work for someone, their vision is paramount to me, but I don't let people treat me like shit."

Critics also attacked the finale for sidelining other major characters. Jules (Hunter Schafer) barely appeared. Leslie appeared only in a dream sequence. The ending felt claustrophobic and incomplete.

"man whatever never had a character death of a character i loved so much feel so hollow," one viewer wrote.

As Rolling Stone reports, the finale has left showrunner Sam Levinson facing serious questions from a fanbase that wanted catharsis — not just carnage.
